Two recent bicycle accidents in Carroll County have led some residents to believe that bicycle lanes might help cyclists from being injured.
In a hit and run accident, one cyclist is recovering from a separated shoulder after being hit by a pickup truck. The injured cyclist knew he was hit by a pickup but could not identify the driver or his truck with any further details. Another cyclist who was recently injured was able to identify the driver that hit him. The driver was charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.
It was reported that neither of the injured cyclists believes that designated bike lanes would have prevented their accidents. But many local Carroll County residents believe the creation of bike lanes would help prevent serious injuries such as these.

A vehicle injures a pedestrian almost every eight minutes. A pedestrian is killed in a traffic accident almost every two hours. Most of those who are injured or killed, are so as a result of a negligent driver. Some non-traffic pedestrian accidents occur due to defective sidewalks and parking lots, road debris or improperly maintained property. An injured pedestrian may be able to be compensated for injuries from anothers negligence, a traffic accident or from a property defect.
When a pedestrian accident occurs, the victims leg, arms and head are the most likely to receive the most serious injuries. When a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle, the injuries range from minor to serious injuries. Some of the most serious injuries we have seen include broken bones, disfigurement, permanent disability, a brain injury, a spinal cord injury, short-term incapacitation and becoming quadriplegic.
Pedestrian accidents take place in various ways for example, failing to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk, not paying attention to their surroundings, driving according to weather conditions and/or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In some pedestrian accidents we have had, the pedestrian was found to be at fault for not being in a crosswalk at the time of the accident or was not paying attention their surroundings.

The roads in Atlanta and surrounding suburbs are always busy with different types of motor vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycle riders. Bicycle riders should not be ignored but all to often bikers are not given the same equal rights when navigating the roadways. Motorist’s lack of acknowledgment of the bikers often leads to mishaps and accidents along the way. Below are some ways motorists should behave when sharing the roadway with cyclist:
* Motorist should be attentive to the cyclist being sure not to ignore there presence by focusing only on other motor vehicles
* Motorist should avoid multi-tasking while driving as this can distract one from the cyclist as well as other motor vehicles
* Motorist should not make illegal turns
* Motorist should check there review mirrors prior to opening doors to avoid striking a cyclist
* Motorist should be fully aware of their surroundings when backing from a side street, driveway etc. to avoid colliding with the cyclist
If you or a loved one have been a bicyclist and were involved in an accident you may have legal grounds to file a claim against the at fault individual.
