A paralyzed man from Lavonia, Georgia is on his way by wheelchair to the Georgia-Florida football game on October 31, 2009, in Jacksonville, Florida.
His motive in taking this three-hundred and fifty mile trip is not just to see the football game, but to bring attention to the importance of stem cell research and to demonstrate his need for such a procedure that might help him walk one day. Brad Williams says he is determined to walk one day. He is quoted as saying, “I want to do this more for my family than for myself.”
When Mr. Williams was traveling near Thompson, Georgia, Deputy Marc Coy of the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Department aided Mr. Williams by helping to escort him through the county and was quoted as saying, “ He gives people a ray of hope that things can get better watching him do what he is doing and how his life has changed.”
Mr. Williams was injured in a car accident on Interstate-85 (I-85) in June 2006 which left him confined to a wheelchair. If you are interested in donating to Mr. William's surgery fund go to brad1977.wordpress.com.

Demetrius Randle returned to his Lawrenceville home yesterday after months of in-hospital rehabilitation in Roswell, GA. Though balloons and banners adorned his home as friends and family celebrated his return, memories of loss flooded the minds of the happy but hurting relatives. A survivor of the deadliest I-85 crash in northeast Georgia in more than fifteen years, Randle suffered serious injuries in the March 31 accident involving five vehicles. In the crash, Randle and family members were riding in a limousine from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to their Lawrenceville home when a reckless driver caused the five-car collision and killed four people. Along with the limo driver, 44-year-old Mark Gay, three of Randle’s dearest family members died: his son Alex, 14, daughter Whitney, 21, and infant grandson (Whitney’s son), Kayden.
Randle’s wife waited to tell him the devastating news until about one week ago. Though he remembers the crash, he did not know that he had lost his children and grandchild. During the accident, Randle sustained damage to the frontal lobe of his brain after being ejected from the limousine. His short-term memory, coordination, and communication were negatively affected by the serious injury, but his return home was a relatively healthy one. Though he could not walk, talk, stand, or even sit only a few weeks ago, he is now talking, moving in his wheelchair, and even playing video games. He will continue therapy to work towards walking again.
The 20-year-old Gainesville resident who allegedly caused the tragic accident, Carmon "Cody" Rhoden, is set to appear in court August 1. Currently, he is held without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail for four counts of vehicle homicide, among other citations.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), which often results from car accidents, can drastically change a person's life, but healing from TBI is not out of the question, as Demetrius Randle, 45, is showing his friends and family. According to Andria Simmons of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution online, the former Lawrenceville resident suffered brain damage in a serious car-limo accident last spring that resulted in fatality for his son, daughter, grandson, and a non-relative. The March 31 accident began a five-car wreck on I-85 in Atlanta when a speeding car crashed into the limousine in which many of the Randle family were passengers. Despite their overwhelming loss, Demetrius and wife Falleen Randle moved from Gwinnett County to Malibu, California, in hopes of his recovery through a serious of treatments at Malibu Hyperbaric Medical Center. According to Simmons, the treatments take place in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and stimulate healing of the brain by providing enormous amounts of oxygen to the body. The brain injury victim is improving in willingness to participate in conversations, speaking more clearly, and crawling and walking with help, according to his wife. Although Demetrius Randle currently uses a wheelchair, he dreams of walking without assistance in the future. Falleen Randle told the AJC that her family will attempt to be present at court hearings for the 20-year-old driver who caused the fatal accident, Carmon Cody Rhoden. Rhoden's trial date has not been scheduled, but he has been charged with vehicular homicide.
We represent clients whose loved ones have sustained serious brain injuries in car accidents, and we express our deepest condolences to the family of Demetrius Randle. July 3, 2008 - Gainesville resident Carmon "Cody" Rhoden was speeding on I-85 on March 31 near Indian Trail Road when he hit a limousine that was en-route to its passengers’ home from the Atlanta airport. Thirty-eight-year-old Session Holt of Florida has been charged with DUI and following too closely after a three-car crash on Interstate 85 Saturday morning. The accident occurred at about 5:00am near Beaver Ruin Road.
After the driver of a 2005 Scion car hit the rear of a Ford Taurus while traveling northbound on I-85, both drivers pulled over to the side of the roadway. According to officers who investigated the scene, the DUI suspect, Holt, hit the driver of the Scion, killing him instantly. The driver and passengers of the silver Ford Taurus were treated and released.
Part of I-85 had to be temporarily closed while investigators reconstructed the events of the accident. Others involved in the wreck were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries and are listed in critical condition.
The names of passengers in Holt's vehicle are being withheld pending the investigation. Mr. Holt may be facing more charges as the investigation continues.

June 30, 2008 - Starting with a six-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer truck, a series of accidents occurred Saturday (June 28) on I-85 in Coweta County, bringing northbound traffic to a three-and-one-half-hour standstill. After the first accident, in which a tractor-trailer truck and five cars collided, frustrated drivers and passengers tried to avoid the lengthy delay by crossing over to southbound lanes, resulting in smaller accidents. Others got out of their vehicles and tried to cross the median on foot (illegally), causing even more crashes. Three additional accidents were caused when cars approached the stalled traffic from the six-vehicle wreck at a rapid speed.
Although the total number of accidents and injuries were unknown on Saturday due to separate posts handling different crashes and paperwork being incomplete, at least three people were taken by helicopter to hospitals in Atlanta (Grady Memorial, Scottish Rite, and Atlanta Medical Center).
