More than three years ago, a tragic drunk driving accident took the lives of 3 people. The intoxicated man driving was heading west on the eastbound lane of I-20. He drove head-on into a car carrying three women, killing himself and two of the women in the other car car, and injuring the third. The driver that was hit was a mother of two, and her family sought the compensation they felt they deserved.

The family went after the club that the man had left with a blood alcohol level of .398, almost 5 times the legal limit of .08. They had been serving him drinks that night, and continued to do so, even though it was apparent that he was very intoxicated. In fact, the attorney on the case mentioned that at such an incredibly high blood alcohol level, most people are comatose or near death. With such massive amounts of alcohol, it would have been completely noticeable to anyone that this man was drunk. The levels in this case are almost unheard of.

The court ruled in favor of the family, and ordered the club to pay the sum of $1.75 million, to which the family plans to use to send the two children of the mother, ages 5 and 6, to college in the future. The family also hopes that this accident will bring awareness to others about the catastrophic dangers that are involved with driving under the influence, and to remind businesses that selling too many drinks is bad business, and they will be held responsible for their negligence.
