A Passenger of a Pickup Truck Ejected on I-285 in Sandy Springs, Georgia

On Monday, January 25, 2010, a fatal auto accident occurred on I-285, according to the Sandy Springs Police Department. The accident occurred on New Northside Drive in Sandy Springs, Georgia when a pickup truck sideswiped a Mercedes and lost control of the vehicle. After the pickup truck hit the Mercedes, the truck rolled and ejected a man from the back of the truck. He was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he passed away from injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the pickup truck, Jack Mize, 69 years of age, and resident of Chamblee, Georgia, and one of the passengers were injured and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. The occupants of the Mercedes did not receive any injuries as a result of the crash.

According to the Sandy Springs Police Department, it is illegal in Georgia to carry passengers in pickup truck beds on the interstate and no charges have been filed but the accident is still being investigated.
