Alabama: Sixth Highest State for Number of Holiday Fatalities Involving Teen Drivers

Allstate Insurance recently released a study that ranks the state of Alabama as having the sixth highest number of fatal accidents involving teenage drivers between the Christmas Day and New Year's Day holidays, according to Daniel Curtis of the WSFA 12 News website. According to the statistics gathered by Allstate, 31 fatal accidents that involved drivers who were in their teens occured on highways in Alabama between the 2000 and 2007. Additionally, Birmingham was listed as one of the ten deadliest cities for fatal accidents involving teens on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. According to Curtis, an average of 6,000 teenagers are killed and 300,000 are injured in car accidents, with speeding, distractions, and driver error as the top causes for the young drivers' crashes.
