Event: Georgia House Passes Seatbelt Law Changes
After years of failed attempts, Georgia may be following the rest of the United States in requiring adults to wear seat belts in a pickup truck. According to the Greenwich Citizen, it wasn’t easy. The seat belt supporters were prepared each year with scary statistics about the number of lives that could be saved, car accidents avoided and medical expenses saved if Georgia adopted the seat belt law.
On Tuesday, April 27, 2010 the measure sailed through the Georgia House of Representatives by a 132-29 vote. Since the Senate has already passed the measure, it now goes to Governor Sonny Perdue, who has stated he will sign the legislation.
The State of Georgia already requires minors to wear seat belts and adults to wear them in all vehicles except pickup trucks.
