A potentially deadly head-on collision on I-85 in Jackson County was avoided Monday, October 6, due to the new cable barriers along the interstate, according to Braselton’s police chief Terry Esco. According to Kerry Testement of the Main Street News website, a 1996 Honda Accord lost control, hitting ten metal poles along the cable system and landing upside-down with its top on the barrier. Driver Figueroa Alfredo, Jr. sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the accident and was taken to Gainesville’s Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Upon inspection of his vehicle, police said that a possible contribution to the cause of the accident was a tire that lost its tread completely and another that was damaged. The cable barriers were installed on parts of I-85 in order to prevent cross-over accidents. They appear to be serving their purpose.
