Cable Barriers Vs. Metal and Concrete Barriers On Georgia Highways | Georgia Accident Attorney

Georgia transportation officials have introduced a new guard rail system that hopefully will be much safer for the driving community along Interstate 75 and Interstate 16 in Bibb County. Up until the present, concrete walls or metal guard rails were used as barriers along Georgia Highways. According to Deputy Sean Defoe of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the new cable guard rail system is designed to absorb the impact of a motor vehicle as opposed to the metal or concrete barriers. The new barriers will bend more and cause less property damage to the vehicle and possibly fewer injuries. The one disadvantage to the new system would mean a cut through every five miles for emergency vehicles as opposed to every two miles but Defoe stated that this is a small price to prevent serious head on accidents. The project is estimated to be finished in October and the 14 mile span of new cable guard rails has a price of $2.2 million.
