It’s time for Georgia to really start celebrating the holidays! Many local authorities and members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) were truly concerned about driving safety on the road this year. This concern was viable considering many people drink and stay up late during the holidays, and then choose to get behind the wheel feeling overly tired or drive under the influence of alcohol.
However, the statistics are in from Georgia State Patrol, and they were please to see that there was a significant drop in car accidents in Georgia state. Last year, during the Thanksgiving of 2010, there were 437 wrecks in Georgia, with eight fatalities, and 397 injuries. This year, that number went down to 344 auto accidents, with only 204 reported injuries. Sadly, 12 of those accidents were fatal collisions.
Our gratitude goes out to the officers who worked hard to monitor the roads and keep them safe during the holiday. Many police worked over the holiday starting on Wednesday at 6:00p.m. until Sunday at midnight.
