April 22, 2008 - When driving to Carrollton this past Saturday, I was surprised by the amount of traffic along Highway 61. In recent years, billboards have shot up along the landscape which is evidence of the growing traffic along Highway 61.
I was not surprised to see in the recent U.S. Census Bureau estimate for 2007 that Carroll County’s population has actually grown faster than that of Douglas County. According to the estimates from July 2006 to July 2007, Carroll County had grown by 4,629 people, an actual population increase of 4.3 percent. By comparsion, Douglas County had grown by 4.1 percent or 4,938 people. Most of Carroll County’s growth is from its two largest towns, Villa Rica and Carrollton, while most of Douglas County’s growth continues to be in or near its largest city, Douglasville.
