Cobb County I-575 Crash Injures Three Teenagers, Charges Expected Against 16-Year-Old Driver

Monday afternoon rush hour presented even more delays than usual for Cobb County drivers along I-575 when three teenagers were injured in a serious car accident. Shortly after 5:00pm, a 16-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and crossed the median, flipping her vehicle and hitting another car. Along with the driver, all three passengers in the teenager’s black Acura were injured: two 15-year-olds and one 12-year-old. According to recent reports, three of the four in the Acura are in critical condition. The driver is in a medically-induced coma, and the 12-year-old and one of the 15-year-olds are suffering from severe head trauma. Those with head trauma are sisters, and one of them had her appendix and right colon removed while the other has broken pelvis and chest bones.

Sixteen-year-old drivers in Georgia are given "Class D" licenses, meaning they can have immediate family as passengers for the first six months of a license and only one non-family member under 21 during the second six months. Cobb police spokeswoman Cassie Reece says charges are expected against the driver.
