June 23, 2008 - After witnessing a family tragedy that led to their own son’s death, metro Atlanta parents Steve Wise and Brandi Lucas have chosen child safety as their personal mission. Wishing that no one would experience what they had to endure four years ago, they have participated in fundraisers for police departments in their hometown of Covington, GA, and held child safety drives since the accident.
The tragic event occurred when young Garet Wise was visiting family. As another relative backed out of the driveway, Garet’s father, Steve, watched the car accidentally strike his toddler, knowing there was nothing he could do to prevent the accident. Devastated, both parents became determined to prevent future accidents involving children. Currently, the couple is planning another child safety seat drive which will take place at the beginning of this school year.
