Decatur Resident Involved in Athens, Georgia Fatal Accident

On Thursday, January 28, 2010, a resident of Decatur, Georgia was involved in a fatal car accident in Athens, Georgia. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Edna Taylor Barker, 59 years of age, was traveling to work when a truck crashed into the driver’s side of her vehicle as she crossed U.S. Route 72. Feliciano Diaz-Perez, 23 years of age, resident of Liburn, Georgia, was the driver of the truck. According to the Limestone County Coroner, Ms. Barker was heading north through the intersection when Mr. Diaz-Perez broadsided her.

According to the State Troopers, Mr. Diaz-Perez drove through the red light at the intersection. Further investigation revealed that driving while texting on a cell phone may have contributed to this accident. Both Ms. Barker and Mr. Diaz-Perez were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Ms. Edna Taylor Barker passed away from the injuries sustained in this fatal auto accident and Mr. Diaz-Perez did not receive any injuries as a result of the accident. This accident is still being investigated.
