A worker was killed at the DeKalb County Seminole Road Landfill when he fell down a 60-foot-deep shaft on Saturday, according to the 11 Alive website. Authorities reported that the man was trying to remove a grate from the hole when the accident occurred at the Ellenwood landfill on Clevermont Rd., and the workers had plans to fill in the 48-inch-wide well and dig new ones, which are used to capture methane gas. Although rescue crews hope to recover the body of the worker, they were awaiting the advice and assistance of experts at the time of the report since they cannot send someone down to recover the body. No name was released at the time of the report, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the devastating accident.
We express our deepest sympathies to the family of the victim in this incident. We handle wrongful death and fatal accident cases and have worked with families as they experienced the indescribable trauma after losing a loved one, and our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
