Douglas County Sheriff's Office Awarded 2010 Hero Award for Fighting Against DUI

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office received an award, 2010 Hero Award, from the Mothers Against Drunk Driving for its effort to fight crime against drinking and driving at the Tuesday's Board of Commissioners meeting.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, 581 DUI arrests were made last year, which is an average of 1.6 arrests daily. The sheriff's office would like to send a message to all: "If you drink and drive in Douglas County, you're going to get caught and you're going to get prosecuted."

Also, in the Tuesday's Board of Commissioners meeting, it was announced that the federal government awarded Traffic Markings, Inc., a $63,132 contract to put raised pavement markers in the middle of the roadways to alert people when they are crossing the center line.
