March 3, 2008 - Recently I received a call from a man whose wife was admitted to the Douglas County Hospital on Hospital Drive in Douglasville. She was simply standing at an intersection, waiting for her ride to work, when a car failed to negotiate a turn properly, and she was struck by the vehicle. She suffered serious injuries, including a broken arm.
This very pleasant lady is like so many other clients I represent: people who are just going about their day when someone on the roadway-- in a rush or not paying attention or acting recklessly-- strikes someone with a car, causing serious injuries.
Some might argue that this was just fate or that it was just God’s will for this person to be so seriously injured. However, I cannot agree with this reasoning. It’s not right to blame God when people are reckless or don’t follow the rules of the road. Tornadoes or hurricanes are acts of God; terrible car and truck accident cases that occur in the roadways, however, are usually caused by someone’s negligence on the road.
As a personal injury attorney, I try to seek compensation for these injury victims, by seeking payment for their medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. But ofen this is not enough. I can tell you from first-hand experience that the money to compensate the injury victim is never enough. Most of my clients who have had serious injuries wish they could go back in time and never experience the horrible injuries that they suffer in an unfortunate car wreck.
I try to have compassion for my clients, knowing that some day a family member could be involved in a catastrophic accident.

What if I am a pedestrian and I am struck by a car?
Can a pedestrian accident victim make a claim when crossing the street without a crosswalk?
