Apparent Drunk Driver Runs Over Himself with His Vehicle

A recent police chase in Santa Fe, New Mexico, ended when the 21-year-old apparent drunk driver who was fleeing the Sante Fe police ran over himself with his vehicle, according to the 11 Alive website.  The site reports that the state's "DrunkBuster" hotline was alerted on Sunday afternoon, November 23, with reports of a man who appeared to be driving under the influence of alcohol.  Officer Grace Romero of the State Police began chasing the driver's pickup truck, which was swerving through both lanes of the highway and drastically changing speeds.  According to the report, the suspect barely avoided collisions with other vehicles, then drove through a ditch and fence before attempting to stop his vehicle.  When he tried to put the truck into park, it went into reverse, and the driver fell from the open door of his vehicle.  The front driver's side tire ran over both of his legs, and he was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries.  He was then taken to the Sandoval County detention center due to charges of aggravated driving while under the influence, reckless driving, and fleeing an officer, among other charges.
