Five were injured and one killed by a DUI driver in a two-car crash in Bleckley County, Georgia, Sunday morning, December 14, according to Becky Purser of the Macon.com news website.  The article reports that 30-year-old Phillip Bender, Jr., of Cochran, rear-ended 28-year-old Warner Robins resident Rivera Garcia after following too closely on GA 87 near Lucas Road.  Upon impact of the 12:03 a.m. accident, the 1995 Chevrolet Lumina in which Garcia was a passenger overturned multiple times before resting in the ditch on the west side of the roadway.  Rivera Garcia was killed due to the crash.  According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chad Harrison, Bender was charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence (DUI), following too closely, reckless driving, driving on a limited driver's license, open container, and no seat belt.  After being treated for injuries at  Cochran's Bleckley Memorial Hospital, Phillip Bender was held in the Bleckley County Jail.  The driver of the vehicle in which Rivera Garcia was a passenger, Angel Osena, and the other passengers, Monica Garcia, Ismael Rosales, Mayolo Lopez, and Jose Rayes, all received medical treatment for injuries at Bleckley Memorial Hospital as well.
