Early Monday Morning on July 27, 2009, a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 27 was involved in a rollover car accident. Two people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, Charles Hunter, 55 years of age and a resident of Tallahassee, Florida fell asleep at the wheel while driving. When the vehicle ran off the roadway, Mr. Hunter suddenly woke up and overcorrected the wheel causing the vehicle to cross over the median and hit an embankment. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to overturn several times. The passenger, Brenda Fauls, 49 years of age and a resident of Macomb, Illinois was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to the Decatur County Coroner. Mr. Hunter sustained minor injuries as a result of the car accident. Both victims of this auto accident were wearing safety harnesses.
