On June 16, 2009, two teenagers were killed and two others were severely hurt in a fatal car accident on I-285 in DeKalb County, Georgia. According to investigators at the scene of the accident, a Chevrolet Corvette and a Ford Mustang may have been street racing when one of the cars collided with a guard rail and an SUV. Jordan Makanani, 18 years of age and Brandon Phillips, 20 years of age, were the two victims in the Corvette who died from the cause of the accident. Both the passengers in the SUV were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
