According to 11Alive.com, Friday afternoon’s (September 12, 2008) California train wreck resulted in at least 25 deaths, making it the "deadliest rail disaster in 15 years." As reported by the website, a Los Angeles Metrolink commuter train slammed into a freight train during rush hour, leading to the 25 deaths and also 135 injuries, with at least nine of the injured in critical condition. It took almost an entire day to recover the bodies due to the severity of the accident. According to a Metrolink spokesperson, it is suspected that the engineer of the commuter train did not stop at a red signal, and Mlive.com reports that the NTSB will be examining the deceased engineer’s cell phone records and that of two fourteen-year-olds who told CBS2-TV that they received a text message from him moments before the crash.
