Last Tuesday on October 13, 2009, a fatal vehicle accident occurred on Highway 78 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. According to the Dekalb County police officers on scene, James Miles, fifty-five years of age, was switching lanes when he hit the rear bumper of a van and killed three people. Six others were injured when the van flipped over. The roof of the van had to be cut off by emergency personnel to rescue all nine people inside the vehicle. The six people who survived the wreck were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and Atlanta Medical Center.
The three victims of this fatal car accident all were residents of Liburn, Georgia and worked for Georgia Power or Southern Company Services. For years, the co-workers had been riding together in the van that was a van ride share benefit offered by the company VPSI, Inc.
In result of this fatal car wreck, James Miles was charged with improper lane change and three counts of vehicular homicide in the second degree.
