The article reports that the accident resulted from a high-speed police chase on the 75/85 Connector, and officials stated that the car that police were pursuing flipped over the guardrail on the HOV ramp for Piedmont Avemue while attempting to exit the northbound connector. After landing next to the ramp leading to Freedom Parkway, the vehicle burst into flames, and two of its occupants were killed.
