On Sunday morning, April 18, 2010 a small sports utility vehicle carrying four Kennesaw State University students left the road and struck a tree. One of the students was fatally injured. According to Cobb Police spokeswomen, the driver of the vehicle, 21 year old Shaneisa Newsome was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain a lane, DUI, driving without a tag, and driving without a seat belt. Two of the passengers, Michelle Jackson of Waverly Hall and Lauren Prewitt of Kennesaw were both transported to the hospital where they were treated and later released.
Cobb County Magistrate Court Judge, Judge Hugh Robinson handed the case over to Superior Court after denying bond to Sheneisa Newsome. Newsome is being held in the Cobb County Jail.
