According to NBC Augusta, The Department of Health and Human Services reported that almost 90 percent of nursing homes in the state of Georgia were in violation of federal standards for health and safety in 2007. The website says the national average was 92 percent for nursing homes that violated regulations. In the report by the Inspector General’s Office, Georgia was listed as having 375 licensed nursing homes that hold a total of 40,649 beds. The average number of violations per nursing home in Georgia amounted to 6.5 percent (compared to the national average of 7 percent). Despite these negative statistics, the state of Georgia actually reduced its percentage of homes with violations from 95 percent prior to 2007 to the recently reported 88 percent.
What exactly are these violations? Issues with quality of life and care, such as bedsores (formally called pressure ulcers or decubitus ulcers), mistakes with medications, problems with housekeeping, and urinary tract infections, are among the cited issues.

Recently we had a client whose car was stolen while it was being worked on at a local auto repair facility in Douglasville. After the police investigated the incident and were not able to follow up on any leads as to who could have stolen the vehicle the officer informed our client that the auto repair facility was not responsible for his loss. Unless he had some type of insurance coverage that protected him in the event his car was stolen, he was just going to be out of luck. This did not sound quite right to us so we wrote to the automobile repair facility where our client’s vehicle was stolen. We were pleased to find out that the business had something called “Garage Keeper’s Comprehensive Coverage”. This insurance was additional insurance that the owner of the repair shop had purchased in the event of vehicles being stolen or damaged while on his premises. Our client is now in the process of recovering a claim against the repair shop’s insurance company and it appears he will be compensated for his stolen vehicle.
