Georgia Senator Cecil Staton (R- Macon) hopes to see a trauma network established for the state, according to Mary Lou Pickel of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution online. The Senator displayed images of his own demolished car on large screens while speaking to the area Senate Tuesday, January 13, about his serious car accident six years ago. Reminding the Senate just how necessary a state trauma network is, Senator Staton spoke of his experience being cut out of his Chevy Suburban with the Jaws of Life on January 9, 2003. He sustained a crushed ankle and tibia in the accident and still has one ankle bigger than the other, and he is thankful that he can walk. According to the site, his proposal requests that $60 million be applied this year towards a state trauma network, and he asserts that reaching the national average would save 600 Georgia lives per year.
