Title: Georgia State Patrol Awarded H.E.A.T. Grant
H.E.A.T otherwise known as Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic has been awarded by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to Georgia State Patrol. The grant which is almost $1.8 million dollars will allow the GSP Nighthawk DUI Task Force to continue. The task force’s primary goals are to educate the public, monitor seat belt usage, reduce speed and reduce the number of individuals who are driving under the influence.
The GSP Nighthawks began in 2004 and are made up of Georgia State Troopers specially trained to detect impaired driving. The Task Force has been able to add another six troopers to expand their work area. The Nighthawks patrol Fulton, Cobb, Dekalb, Gwinnett and the Savannah - Statesboro areas. Reducing fatalities caused by impaired driving is priority for the Nighthawk DUI Task Force.
