Despite the numbers of car accidents in Georgia during the New Year's travel period, Hall County experienced a safe holiday season, according to the Gainesville Times website. The Gainsville Times reports that zero serious accidents and a small amount of arrests took place in the area during the New Year's holiday period as of January 2, despite the fatal accidents that occurred throughout the state. According to the site, 11 people were killed as a result of car accidents in Georgia as of late Friday, January 2, but Hall County's roadways remained safe. According to the Hall County Sheriff's spokesman, five DUI arrests were made by Hall County deputies on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Gainesville Police made three DUI arrests and 19 other arrests over the travel period, most of which were for driving without a license, reports an officer. As of January 2, throughout the state of Georgia, 1,638 accidents resulting in 396 injuries had occurred since the evening of December 31. In comparison, the Georgia State Patrol predicted 3,008 wrecks and 1,350 injuries for the New Year's holiday. Among some of the areas for fatal accidents were Decatur, Sylvania, Americus, Dalton, Dublin, Eatonton, Lafayette,,Hoschton, and a Gwinnett County town.
