A couple from the state of Michigan were traveling through Houston County in Perry Georgia on Wednesday December 30,2009 when there vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer, Luis Lopez Guzman from Texas was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and vehicular homicide. According to Captain Robert West of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Guzman ran a red light and struck the couple from Michigan’s Ford pick up. Mr Hanes, driver of the Ford pick up was taken to Macon’s Medical Center while his wife was taken to Perry Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The accident occurred on Sam Nunn Boulevard near the Interstate 75 ramp.
