June 24, 2008 - At least one person was killed in a dump truck accident on I-85 southbound near Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta Monday afternoon (June 23). All southbound lanes and two northbound lanes were blocked for the majority of the afternoon due to the fiery crash.
The victim, driving a Nissan Altima, became trapped inside the vehicle when the large truck (which was carrying a load of gravel) and Nissan collided in the southbound lanes. Both vehicles burst into flames upon the crash. Due to the severe effects of the fatal accident, the Georgia DOT and Georgia State Patrol waited until after 6:00pm to re-open all lanes of the roadway.
Until relatives are properly notified, the identity of the victim will remain undisclosed.
