Just before 9 a.m. an unidentified male was crossing the railroad crossing on Sewell Road in Bremen. The 1997 Ford Explorer the male was driving was headed northbound over the crossing and was struck in the drivers’ side by a Union Pacific train which was going eastbound. According to Lr. Blane Cochran of the Bremen Police Department, the truck overturned after being struck and the impact ejected the driver from his vehicle.

The male driver was transported to Higgins General Hospital but later passed away due to the injuries. Neither of the train’s engineers were injured however; there was noticeable damage to the train. Police have further determined that the male driver failed to yield the right of way to the train.
