Motorcycle Checkpoints in the State of Georgia

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is encouraging bikers to protest motorcycle only checkpoints. Motorcyclists traveling through Georgia may be subjected to Georgia’s motorcycle only checkpoints if those checkpoints are in place before, during and after Daytona Bike Week which is March 4 through March 13.

The state of Georgia received a $70,000 grant from The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), to conduct one or more roadside motorcycle only checkpoints. The state of New York also has a similar program which is currently facing a lawsuit.

According to the AMA, the primary source of motorcycle safety is in motorcycle accident prevention, not in pulling over riders and randomly subjecting them to roadside inspections. The AMA is urging all bikers around the country to contact the Georgia Governor to stop the Georgia State Patrol from conducting any motorcycle only traffic checkpoints.
