When future car accidents take place, an accident reporting system may automatically call for help, say U.S. scientists. The UPI website recently posted an article discussing the "Java-enabled car accident reporting system," which would be a potential life-saver for victims unable to call for help, especially on less populated roadways. According to the researchers, rollover accidents often result in injuries or other reasons that would prevent passengers from making calls, so Georgia Southern University is partnering with Debopam Acharya to develop a system that will make those important calls to emergency medical services, as well as "determine the nature" of each car accident. Called SAVE, the system will use wireless technology for the assesment of vehicle conditions and sensor technology (such as an inclinometer) to detect rollovers and other types of crashes. It will also monitor the position (via GPS), incline, temperature, and deceleration of the vehicle and deployment of the airbag.
