Title: Pedestrian Accidents Higher During Shopping Season
The holidays bring an influx of shoppers to the strip malls and parking lots alike. This can be a very stressful and preoccupied time for many drivers. Pedestrians in particular need to exercise extreme caution while walking to and from parking lots and traveling by foot from store to store.
Amanda Garrett, 29 year old mother was struck in a parking lot in Carrollton Georgia while walking to her vehicle. Ms Garrett was also carrying her one month old child at the time of the accident. Both victims, mother and child, were transported to Tanner Medical Center for treatment. According to the Douglas County Sentinel and the police report, the driver of the vehicle which struck Ms. Garrett failed to come to a complete stop before turning.
Captain Chris Dobbs of the Carrollton Police Department reminds pedestrians and drivers alike to use extreme caution when backing out of a parking place. Be cautious of excited children who may often dart between vehicles or ahead of their parents. Dobbs further warned drivers to be aware and pay attention and to not be on the cell phones while driving. Pedestrians likewise should be fully aware of their surroundings and to not talk on the phone while walking to and from the stores.
