Cobb County investigators have determined that a rotten tire was the cause of the fatal auto accident which occurred just days before Christmas. The Ford SUV had six passengers and the tire blew causing the vehicle to rollover killing two individuals. Cobb County Police Officer Pete Jones noted the tire was manufactured in 1996 and although the tread appeared normal the tire had rotted away. Jones further warns if a tire sits on a shelf for an extended period of time it may deteriorate and later come apart.
