Suspected Drunk Driver Hits Bumper of Police Car in Lumpkin County

A Lumpkin County police officer's cruiser was rear-ended last week in a crash caused by a potentially drunk driver, according to Matt Aiken of The Dahlonega Nugget online.  Joshua Warthen Dunne, the man who struck the officer's patrol car, told police that his windshield was covered in ice, obstructing his view and causing him to collide with the bumper of the parked vehicle.  Authorities questioned Dunne's story, however, and charged him with suspicion of DUI (driving under the influence, or driving drunk).  According to Aiken, the officer was directing traffic for Lumpkin County High School when he waved for Dunne to pass through the area.  Dunne halted his vehicle instead, so the officer told him to park behind the patrol car.  Both vehicles suffered slight damage when Dunne's yellow cadillac struck the cruiser, and the man was taken to the Lumpkin County Detention Center following the accident.
