Vehicular homicide is the charge Ms Lori Reineke is facing for texting while driving according to police. On the evening of October 30, 2009 Ms Reinke was traveling through an intersection and struck James Eaton III whose injuries were fatal. The investigating officers are blaming text messaging as a contributing factor for the accident while Ms Reinke’s attorney argues otherwise. In addition to the vehicular homicide charge Reineke was also charged with reckless driving, failure to exercise due care and engaging in actions which distract from the safe operation of a motor vehicle.

The charges come at a time where multiple bills banning texting while driving are being considered by Georgia lawmakers.
