Beginning Thursday July 1, 2010 drivers in the state of Georgia may receive a fine and points against their license if they are caught while texting and driving. This will include if one writes, reads, or sends a text or email from their cell phones. However, for those drivers under the age of 18 years old it is illegal not only with respect to the texting law but also it is now illegal for them to talk on the cell phone while driving.
According to commanding officer of the Georgia State Patrol, Major Mark McDonough they anticipate many warnings to be issued between now and August 1. This will allow officers an opportunity to adequately warn drivers of the new laws.
