According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, several major roads through downtown Douglasville were shut down this morning as crews began cleaning up an overnight train derailment. Eleven cars of the Norfolk Southern train derailed and no injuries were reported. The derailed train cars were carrying a double stack of piggyback truck trailers hauling a variety of products. The train cars derailed in front of the old Douglas County Courthouse.
Many of the truck trailers were badly damaged. Most of the trailers had the logo of J.B. Hunt Trucking Company, Swift Trucking and UPS.
By daybreak this morning, crews were working on clearing the train wreckage. The cause of the derailment is still being investigated.
