Georgia State Patrol reported the first call they received was in reference to an individual driving in the wrong direction on Highway 27 near Meadow Lakes Boulevard. However, the accident occurred prior to officers arriving. James Alex Turner of Rome was traveling in his Nissan Altima when he was struck by Francisco Gomez Sales of Cedartown who was the driver of the vehicle going the wrong way. Mr. Turner was transported to Floyd Medical Center with extensive injuries and Mr Sales was treated and released where he was taken to Polk County Jail. Sales is being charged with driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving without a license and reckless driving.
