Interstate 75 experienced double fatality in Monroe County Saturday, January 17, according to Travis Fain of the Macon.com website. The emergency-lane accident occurred when Mercer University School of Medicine professor Kristina Detmer appeared to lose control of her car and struck another vehicle before crashing into a man and his vehicle. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Makoye Pambi, a 31-year-old Atlanta resident, was changing a tire on his car when Detmer, 56, crashed into a different vehicle, spun out of control, and collided with Pambi and his car. The Patrol believes Detmer was trying to get over to allow more room for Pambi to change his tire, and she apparently did not see the other vehicle, causing her to crash into it. According to Trooper Brandon Brown, Detmer died at the scene and Pambi died later at the hospital. Brown reports that the fatal accident occurred on I-75 between High Falls Road and Johnsonville Road around 4:45 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries in the accident.
