What is a Herniated Disc?

Each vertebrae of your spine is protected by a spinal disc that gives the vertebrae a soft cushion, as it were, and protects the vertebrae. As you get older, those discs lose their elasticity and softness, and become more prone to injury, such as a disc rupture or become herniated. This abnormal rupture in the middle of the disc is referred to as a disc herniation.
