On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, a seven year old girl was attached by a pit bull, according to the Cobb County Police Department. The minor child was walking alone in the Valley View mobile home park when she was approached by the pit bull. A gentleman witnessed the attack and came to the minor child’s rescue and struck the dog with a piece of wood. The good Samaritan transported the girl to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in his own vehicle, after separating the dog and the child.
The attack was reported by an off-duty Marietta City Police Officer, who was working at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital as his second job.
After a medical evaluation at Welllstar Kennestone Hospital the young girl was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. According to the Cobb County Police Department, the young child suffered a severe injury to her leg. The pit bull which weighed about 115 pounds, was signed over to the animal control and was expected to be euthanized. Charges are expected to be filed against the dog’s owner.
