What is Diminished Value and Do I Qualify ?

A: If you have been involved in an auto accident you are not only entitled to receive repairs to your automobile but you may qualify for an additional monetary compensation and property damage payment. This payment is known as diminished value or accelerated depreciation. A vehicle that has been damaged and repaired has a less value than one that has not been involved in an accident. The diminished value is the loss in resale value after your vehicle has been repaired. Most insurance companies will use a calculated formula known as formula 17c. Many appraisers believe this formula is unfair and the actual diminished value can only be calculated by an appraisal using current market values and physical inspections.
