  The early morning of July 5 turned tragic as a wrong-way driver, Otis South, crashed head-on into another car, killing himself and two young mothers. • Georgia Man Pinned Beneath SUV in Car Accident
  Girlonzia “Lonie” McDaniel of Seminole County, Georgia, became trapped underneath his vehicle after losing control of his Kia when traveling toward Bainbridge, Georgia. According to The Post-Searchlight, McDaniel’s vehicle left the roadway at the intersection of Spring Creek Road and Ten Mile Still Road, entered the woods, overturned in trees, and ejected the driver.   While responding to a Wednesday morning burglary, twenty-six-year-old Aiken County deputy Brandon Geisler lost control of his patrol car due to wet road conditions on Belvedere-Clearwater Road. • Serious Injuries Caused by I-85 Atlanta Racing Accident, Illegal Immigrant Charged
  Illegal immigrant Alvardo Galardo, 24, has turned himself in to Union City Police after fleeing the scene of a racing accident that occurred shortly before 6:00am Thursday (August 14). According to www.myfoxatlanta.com, the crash occurred on I-85 in Atlanta near Union City when Galardo and another driver weaved in and out of lanes racing at over 100 miles per hour. Galardo’s black Mitsubishi Eclipse then slammed into an SUV while going over 100mph, causing multiple vehicles to spin and careen across the northbound lanes. Upon impact, the SUV that was hit flipped, leaving its driver, 61-year-old Linda Wiglesworth, trapped, upside-down, as another vehicle struck her Explorer. • Four Atlanta Accidents Within Five Miles on I-85 Wednesday, August 20
  Between exit 56 (Collinsworth Road) and exit 61 (Fairburn) on I-85 Wednesday morning (August 20), four separate accidents occurred, closing some lanes for over six hours. In the first crash, a tractor-trailer truck collided with a concrete barrier around 4:30am and caught fire.   A two-car collision on Highway 271 near I-20 in Texas Saturday (August 23) sent four people to the hospital and shut down two lanes of traffic. According to www.ketknbc.com, the accident occurred around 10:30pm on Highway 271 between I-20 and U.T. Tyler. The site reported that one car pulled out in front of the other vehicle, causing the accident. Of the seven total passengers in the two vehicles, four of them were sent to the hospital with injuries.   Stephen Parker, a 41-year-old police officer from Richmond, Kentucky, sustained injuries in a serious car accident on I-75 while responding to a call reporting a hit-and-run accident near mile marker 88. • Good Samaritan Helps Police Capture Hit-and-Run Driver
  In Dawson County earlier this week a good samaritan helped local police apprehend a hit-and-run driver who struck a five-year-old boy who was attempting to get on a school bus. The driver left the scene, but a woman who witnessed the incident followed the driver, called 911 and helped police capture the driver. According to police, the driver may never have been caught without the help of the woman.

• Cracked Rib/ Fractured Ribs
  Many victims of car accidents suffer from what is commonly referred to as a cracked rib or ribs. Defined by physicians as a rib fracture, the injury refers to what Web MD calls “a crack or break in one of the bones of the rib cage.” According to the Web MD website, even if you do not actually have a broken bone in the rib, a break in the cartilage surrounding the ribs is also often referred to as a rib fracture. Not surprisingly, the most common cause of the injury is direct, sudden pressure on the chest (as occurring in car accidents).   A husband and wife were injured in a head-on collision on GA Hwy 17 in Stephens County. Another woman had to be airlifted to a near-by hospital. • Suspect Injured in Car Accident After Coweta County Police Chase
  A police chase on I-85 in Coweta County early this morning (Wednesday, September 17) culminated in an accident that temporarily shut down the interstate. According to Erika Facey-Palmer of 11Alive.com, police began chasing the suspect on I-85 South just north of Newnan, Georgia, around 2:00a.m. The chase continued for roughly eight miles until the suspect crashed his vehicle north of State Road 14/ US 29 and sustained minor injuries. • Two High Schools Students Injured in Crash with School Bus Outside East Dublin, Georgia
  According to The Courier Herald online, two students from East Laurens High School sustained injuries in an accident with a school bus yesterday morning (Tuesday, September 16). Jerry Hatcher, the Laurens County School Superintendent, stated that the two students were in a private vehicle when the school bus (with no passengers in it) and their vehicle collided at the intersection of Ernest Stinson Rd. and Highway 80 outside East Dublin. According to the report, the driver’s side door was apparently hit by the bus. Both students were taken to the hospital after the wreck. The Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident. • Five Sent to Hospital After Golf Cart Accident
  According to The Lincoln Journal online, five were injured when a car crashed into a golf cart on Thomson Highway (Highway 43) in Lincoln County, Georgia. In a report from the Georgia State Patrol, the golf cart was said to be traveling from a private drive to cross Highway 43 when it was hit by a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The driver of the Chevrolet, 29-year-old Steven Fendley, saw the golf cart but was unable to stop his vehicle in time to avoid a collision. After the two-car collision, one of the injured was taken by helicopter to Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital, and the other two were taken in an ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. • DeKalb County Accident Becomes Chain-Reaction Crash on I-285 This Afternoon
  The westbound lanes of Atlanta’s I-285 in DeKalb County closed early this morning (Friday, September 26) after a chain-reaction accident that began when a woman crashed her vehicle into the interstate’s median wall and sustained injuries. According to the CBS 46 website, the initial Atlanta crash occurred at approximately 3:30a.m. A pickup truck then slammed into a police cruiser while police were investigating the accident, resulting in a multi-vehicle wreck in which two or more tractor-trailers and several cars collided.   According to the Augusta Chronicle, 78-year-old Henry Ashley Wynn of Augusta, Georgia, died Thursday (September 25) after a car accident that injured at least one other person. • Failure to Wear Seatbelt Turns Fatal in Alcohol-Related Atlanta Accident
  Decatur County resident Kelly Robert Brown, 27, died at 3:02 a.m. Sunday, June 8, after sustaining injuries in a one-car accident that occurred less than two hours earlier. According to police, the victim was ejected from his vehicle when it rolled over on Hutchison Ferry Road and River Road. The metro Atlanta driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was under the influence of alcohol, reports the Georgia State Patrol.
• Atlanta Ambulance Budget Cuts Put Lives of Accident Victims at Risk
  Earlier this week, 50-year-old Ricky Hawkins crashed into an electric pole head-on at the intersection of Lee and Oak Streets in Southwest Atlanta. He suffered from a fractured jaw, and his front teeth were knocked out in the crash. Ambulance medics were unsure if he was experiencing internal bleeding at the time of transfer to the hospital. Because the victim was transported to the hospital quickly, his injuries will most likely heal without further damage. What if the ambulance had not responded in ample time, however?   After suffering extensive injuries in a car accident this past January, collegiate fast-pitch softball player Tiffany Jones found herself confined to a wheelchair. Though her prognosis is good, the eighteen-year-old must undergo physical therapy and treatment for an extended (though unknown) period of time. • NTSB Examines Atlanta Bus Accident on I-75 Involving Fatalities to Baseball Team
  The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) met this morning to determine the probable cause of the tragic 2007 Atlanta bus accident as well as courses of action to prevent similar accidents. On March 2, 2007, a 57-passenger motorcoach was transporting 33 baseball players from the Bluffton University team in Ohio through Atlanta on I-75 when it entered an intersection on an overpass, traveled over a bridge wall, and plummeted 19 feet to the Interstate’s southbound lanes. Seven occupants were killed and twenty-eight passengers were injured in the devastating accident. Upon completing investigations, the NTSB stated in today’s press release that the driver’s mistaking of an HOV-only exit ramp for an HOV through-lane was the probable cause of the crash.
• Augusta Accident Kills One on Bobby Jones Expressway
  According to Steve Kuzj of NBC Augusta online, a woman from Colbert, Georgia, died Sunday (September 21) in a car accident on Bobby Jones Expressway. A Richmond County coroner stated that Candy Michelle Butler died after losing control of her SUV shortly before 3:00p.m. At the time of NBC’s report, a passenger from Butler’s vehicle was undergoing surgery.
