Update on Text Message and Cell Phone Laws in Georgia

Effective July 1, 2010

Governor Perdue has signed two new distracted driving bills into law, Senate Bill 360 and House Bill 23.

Senate Bill 360, effective since July 1, 2010, prohibits individuals from using wireless telecommunications for writing, sending or receiving text messages while operating a motor vehicle. The fine for offenders is $150 and one point on their drivers license.

House Bill 23, also effective since July 1, 2010, prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a wireless communication device. The fine for offenders is $150 and one point on their drivers license.
