Testimonials

  • I don’t have any medical bills, I’m receiving revenue for my pain and suffering, and I’m very appreciative. I am truly satisfied with the results of my case.
  • "The best part about having James Murphy as my workers' compensationlawyer is that I have someone to speak for me..."
  • The initial phone call made me feel as though they really cared. They made us feel like a number, and Murphy & Associates didn't. My wife and I have never gone through something like this before and accidents can be devastating to a family because of loss of income, pain and suffering.
  • Murphy & Associates made my experience fast and easy, and got the job done.
  • Murphy & Associates Car Accident Law firm is professional, efficient, and a pleasant experience doing business with.
  • I was involved in a rear-end collision while stopped at a red light. Mr. Murphy and his staff guided me through this long process from obtaining medical treatment to settling with the other party's insurance company.

What Is A SLAP Tear?

We have represented many clients who have been diagnosed and treated for a SLAP tear. This type of shoulder injury involves the Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior. This is located in the shoulder where the tendon of the biceps muscle inserts on the labrum. This area of the labrum is vulnerable to injury due to poor vascularity. These type of injuries often occur from lifting heavy objects, repetitive type overhead work, or from falling on outstretched hands.

Symptoms for a SLAP tear vary but the most common are pain in the shoulder or back of shoulder area or a catching type sensation upon movement. An MRI with contrasting dye is the most efficient study to properly diagnose a SLAP tear. Sometimes this type of injury to the shoulder is not found on an MRI even with the contrast and is actually made at the time of surgery.

Surgery is not always necessary to treat a SLAP tear. We have represented many clients that have treated with physical therapy and used oral medications as prescribed by their physician to control the inflammation and pain. However, when the bicep tendon that is anchored or attached at the labrum becomes unstable your physician may encourage you to skip the conservative treatment and suggest surgical intervention.

Recovery and rehabilitation time following surgical intervention for a SLAP tear varies. Your rehabilitation should include range of motion and strengthening of the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint. Most often this recovery process may take 4 to 5 months.
