Atlanta Police Killed by Drunk Driver on I-75

According to police, an Atlanta police officer was killed late Tuesday evening when she was struck by an alleged drunk driver. The officer had responded to assist another officer with a traffic accident on the Brookwood Interchange ramp from I-75 southbound to I-85 northbound. The officer was getting out of the police vehicle when she was hit. The officer died at the scene.

The driver was charged with first degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and reckless driving, according to Atlanta police. The police also state that the driver registered a .16 on the breath test administered at the scene, but refused consent for a blood alcohol test. A search warrant was obtained and police retrieved blood at Grady Memorial Hospital. The results of the blood test have not been released as of yet.

The driver was booked into Fulton County Jail and is scheduled to go before a Fulton magistrate on Thursday, January 26.
