Douglas County High School Student Killed After Getting Off Bus

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a junior at a local high school in Douglas County was killed after getting off the bus on Dorris Road. The bus was driving the students of the after school program home in the early evening while it was raining, and had stopped to drop off the female student. The bus had put out the flashing stop sign while the student crossed in front of the bus and walked across the street. According to reports, a 51-year old driver ignored the stop sign and hit the young student. She was taken to Wellstar Douglas General Hospital.

Authorities say that alcohol was probably not a factor of the accident, but it is likely that the heavy rainfall was. The driver may be facing charges of vehicular homicide.
