Mableton Man Helping Accident Victim Avoids being Struck by Jumping Off Bridge

May 31, 2011 - Atlanta, GA - A Mableton man was almost the victim of a car accident himself when passing traffic nearly hit him as he tried to help victims of a nearby crashed vehicle.

The story reported by WGCL Atlanta explains that Martreece Tyson was being a Good Samaritan when he stopped after witnessing an SUV crash into a guard rail on the East-West Connector on May 21. He stopped to help the couple in the vehicle, running over while calling 911. As he did so, he could already see they were in a dangerous area, as an approaching vehicle nearly hit the SUV.

Still on the phone with the police, Tyson was suddenly in danger of being struck by a vehicle himself, leaving only 1 option. He jumped from the bridge, falling 37 feet into a muddy creek below, still telling police details of the accident and his location.

When Smyrna police arrived they helped get Tyson to Atlanta Medical Center where he was treated for a broken arm and leg. Investigating the crashed SUV, they charged the driver, Rozina Virani, with DUI.

Roadside accidents are highly common when vehicles become disabled on highways. Drivers need to exercise caution when passing vehicles pulled off on the shoulder of the road and be aware of pedestrians to avoid additional accidents.
